We cannot continue to live on the backs of the poor. Income has to match the cost of food, shelter and self-respect.

The Government of Canada tells people applying for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) that they will need $24,600 as a minimum necessary income for 1 person (source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5256ETOC.asp#incometables) I don't see why OW and ODSP should not also meet this minimum standard. It is the minimum according to the Gov of Canada.

I support Fix the Gap because social assistance rates are woefully inadequate to meet the needs of the poor and disabled who rely on them for rent, groceries, bills, transportation. Social justice demands that we as a society take care of least among us to give them the dignity they deserve.

I support Fix The Gap's focus on social assistance rates because you can't set a plan for adequacy without knowing what adequate looks like. Knowing the cost of living will help form effective policy, even outside of social assistance.
